Ballet-
a classical and structured dance form characterized by grace and precision
movement and by elaborate formal gestures, steps, and poses. Ballet variations
convey a theme or story.
Tap–
an American dance form in which the rhythm is sounded out by the clicking taps
on the heels and toes of a dancer’s shoes. As dancers progress tap steps
become more intricate.
Jazz–
is a dance form commonly seen in Broadway shows, movies, and Las Vegas revues.
Based from ballet it is a more dynamic freestyle form with attitude.
Hip
Hop–
a popular urban youth dance closely associated with rap music and the styles and
fashions of inner-city street culture. It features innovative wild styles and
break dancing. Often seen on MTV.
Lyrical–
a deeply emotional dance expressing the lyrics of a song. Lyrical is a cross
between ballet and jazz.
Modern-
focuses on the dancer's own interpretations instead
of structured steps, as in traditional ballet training. It is a more relaxed,
free style of dancing.
Creative
Movement–
is an imaginative introduction to music and dance geared towards younger
students. This class develops learning and coordination skills with the emphasis
on fun.
Musical
Theater- is a mixture of theatre and dance where the combination of music,
songs, spoken dialogue, and dance create an integrated whole.
Acro–
the practice of skilled floor gymnastic actions or stunts requiring great agility,
balance, and strength.
Cheer–
precise, sharp, and synchronized movements bursting with
power and energy preparing the student for cheerleading and dance team.
Step- comes from African roots. Stepping
incorporates military, drill team and cheerleading moves into a hip hop style.
Call & response and elaborate synchronized movements are prevalent.
Break- an acrobatic hip hop style dance with
high energy moves based on mock combat.
Intro to Ballroom-
learn the basics of the favorite forms of ballroom
like salsa, swing, foxtrot, cha cha, tango, merengue, rhumba, waltz and more.
Stretch
and Strengthen– physically
conditioning the dancer’s body to enhance their performance level. Isometrics,
aerobics, toning, Pilates, and yoga movements are incorporated.
Tricks,
Turns, and Leaps–
class time is spent mastering tricks, turns and
leaps. No combination is taught.
Family Hip Hop- this hip hop class is for a
young dancer and an older mentor. For example, mother-daughter, father-son,
father-daughter, mother-son, big brother-little sister, aunt-niece,
grandma-grandson, and more.
Master
Classes–
distinctive classes featuring a guest instructor. These specially scheduled
events will be posted.
